Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has unveiled India's forward-looking 'data-first' approach aimed at unlocking the nation's offshore energy potential. In a series of posts on X, Puri outlined how India is transitioning from traditional exploration methods to an inclusive multi-client model designed to enhance discovery and innovation in the energy sector.
Puri noted that through the SamudraManthan initiative, India is strategically tapping into its offshore resources by fostering transparency, collaboration, and cutting-edge technology. He emphasized that this approach, which was a focal point of the recent Data-Led Exploration Conference, underscores a critical principle: exploration thrives when information is shared rather than isolated.
The conference was organized by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons and featured key industry stakeholders, including national and global oil companies. Discussions centered on leveraging seismic data to improve exploration outcomes, as participants highlighted the importance of data quality and accessibility in advancing offshore exploration. They also identified data coverage gaps as significant barriers, with calls for accelerated data collection and policy support to invigorate the sector.
