In a significant boost to India’s railway infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved two extensive railway projects worth Rs 24,815 crore on Saturday. These projects include the expansion of the 403 km Ghaziabad-Sitapur and the 198 km Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam lines.
The approved projects are expected to increase line capacity, improving operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. This development aligns with Prime Minister Modi's vision for a self-reliant 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', facilitating comprehensive regional development and enhancing employment opportunities.
These projects, part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focus on expanding multi-modal connectivity and logistical efficiency. This development will not only improve the transportation of goods, such as coal and iron but also support environmental sustainability by reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to planting millions of trees. The upgraded lines are also poised to enhance tourism by providing improved access to numerous notable destinations.
