Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced a comprehensive expansion plan for Ladakh's dairy sector on Friday, including the establishment of a 50,000 litre-per-day milk processing plant in Leh. The initiative is part of the government's commitment to bolster dairy infrastructure in Ladakh and Kargil, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and enhanced incomes for local dairy farmers.
As part of the expansion, cattle breeding centers will be set up in Leh and Kargil, introducing high-yielding breeds suited to the region. With an investment of Rs 70 crore for the new plant, the project aims to scale up milk processing capacities and integrate with local production networks, providing a stable market through tie-ups with the Indian Army.
The initiative, highlighted by Shah during his visit, emphasizes cooperative-based development, organic farming, and advancements in processing capabilities. With increased production, improved livestock, and the implementation of technology-driven solutions, Shah envisions a transformed dairy landscape for the region, promising self-reliance and prosperity for Ladakh's residents.
