Hospitality Industry Hit Hard by Soaring Gas Prices
The Andhra Pradesh Star Hotels Association warns of price hikes in the hospitality sector due to a significant increase in commercial cooking gas prices. The rise places additional financial strain on hotels and restaurants, prompting calls for government intervention and customer understanding amid escalating operational costs.
The hospitality industry in Andhra Pradesh is reeling from a steep hike in commercial cooking gas prices, announced by the Union Government. As of Friday, the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders surged by Rs 993, reaching nearly Rs 3,315 in cities like Hyderabad.
According to R V Swamy, president of the Andhra Pradesh Star Hotels Association, this increase is driving up operational costs significantly, forcing restaurants and hotels to raise menu prices by up to 10 percent. Swamy highlighted that in addition to gas prices, the sector is also grappling with soaring costs of essential commodities such as edible oils, pulses, and packaging materials.
Swamy has appealed to the government for urgent relief measures, including tax breaks or subsidies, to support the hospitality sector. He also urged customers to be understanding as the industry strives to uphold quality standards amid financial challenges.
