Rising LPG Prices Spark Protests in Kerala Hospitality Sector

Hospitality sector stakeholders in Palakkad organized a protest against the recent Rs 1,000 hike in commercial gas cylinder prices. The demonstrators voiced their struggles to sustain operations amid increasing costs, with more protests planned. This issue has prompted a statewide strike by the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association on May 6.

In Palakkad, hotel and restaurant owners took to the streets to protest a significant Rs 1,000 increase in commercial gas cylinder prices. The demonstrators, holding placards and images of gas cylinders, expressed their concerns about sustaining their businesses under the soaring costs.

The protesters, symbolizing their plight, carried two gas cylinders on a stretcher adorned with a wreath. They aired grievances about past closures due to cylinder scarcity and fear new challenges from this financial strain that derails their operations.

The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association swiftly announced a statewide strike, scheduled for May 6, to oppose the sharp price hike. Establishments across Kerala will participate in the strike, staging protest marches and dharnas at district headquarters.
