The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Thiruvananthapuram is taking significant steps to address the rising incidents of passengers falling from trains. A public safety advisory has been issued, warning against the dangers of footboard travel and urging passengers to adopt safer practices when traveling by train.
In 2026 alone, the division has witnessed 37 cases of passengers falling, leading to serious injuries and, in some cases, fatalities. The advisory stresses that standing near coach entrances or traveling on footboards significantly heightens the risk of accidents, particularly due to sudden train movements or overcrowding.
The RPF, in coordination with railway staff, is intensifying awareness campaigns through station announcements and direct passenger engagement to ensure adherence to safety guidelines. The force reiterates that no journey is worth risking one's life and calls for public cooperation to uphold travel safety.
