India to Launch Advanced Ship Repair Facility in Gujarat

The Indian government has approved a Rs 1,570 crore investment to develop a ship repair facility in Vadinar, Gujarat. This project, in collaboration with Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited, aims to boost maritime capabilities, create jobs, cater to large vessels, and reduce dependence on foreign shipyards.

In a decisive move to bolster India's maritime infrastructure, the government has sanctioned a substantial Rs 1,570 crore investment for a ship repair facility in Vadinar, Gujarat. This strategic initiative is set to close a significant gap in the nation's ship repair capacity.

Spearheaded by the Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited, the Vadinar project will feature a state-of-the-art brownfield facility. Plans include a 650-metre jetty, two expansive dry docks, workshops, and vital marine infrastructure, aiming to service vessels up to 300 metres.

The new facility promises to generate around 290 direct and over 1,100 indirect jobs. It is expected to enhance turnaround times, cut foreign exchange outflows, and elevate the global competitiveness of Indian ports, while also fostering a vibrant maritime industrial ecosystem.
