Amazon Revolutionizes Quick Commerce with Electric Truck Fleet
Amazon India is set to deploy approximately 1,000 electric trucks produced by Volvo Eicher by 2028 to bolster its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, across India. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency while promoting sustainable mobility through carbon-free transportation solutions.
In a significant move towards sustainable logistics, Amazon India announced plans on Monday to introduce around 1,000 Volvo Eicher electric trucks by 2028 for its Amazon Now service nationwide. As of now, 50 of these trucks are already operational.
The trucks are designed for extensive use, covering distances of 100-180 km daily with fast-charging capabilities that reduce downtime to just 50 minutes. They will facilitate the transport of goods between Amazon's fulfillment hubs and micro-fulfillment centers, which are stationed closer to consumers in urban areas.
The electric fleet will initially roll out in prominent cities such as Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. This initiative aligns with Amazon's strategy to deploy over 100 electric trucks in prominent Indian cities as part of its broader objective to decarbonize transport and boost logistics efficiency.
