Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has unveiled a new strategy by introducing 'guardian officers' to each underperforming department, aiming for a financial upturn. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik emphasized this comprehensive plan focuses on boosting revenue streams, tightening administrative diligence, and implementing stringent cost reduction measures.
Guardian officers, selected from the regional manager rank or above, will be tasked with analysing monthly expenditures and ensuring strict depot-wise income targets are met. A reward scheme will promote fuel efficiency among depots achieving notable diesel savings, considered a crucial source of added income for the MSRTC.
To prevent revenue losses, the corporation's Security and Vigilance Department will keep a close eye on conductors involved in ticket mismatches. Sarnaik highlighted the importance of passenger fares and declared on-route deployment of conductors as a priority by eliminating non-transport duties.
MSRTC also plans to capitalise on its assets by auditing commercial properties at bus stands to ensure they are fully occupied and promptly collecting rents. The corporation will impose the 'Issue and Start' protocol during morning shifts for systematic ticket management before departure.
