Launch of All-Women Bus Service in Gangtok Marks Big Step for Women's Transportation

Droupadi Murmu launched a new all-women bus service in Gangtok aimed at providing safe and empowering transportation for women. The Pink City Runner service promises safety with female-run operations, CCTV, and other amenities, marking progress in gender equality and public transport modernisation.

Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a women-exclusive bus service in Gangtok, setting a milestone in public transport aimed at empowering female commuters. Launched in Ridge Park, the 'Pink City Runner - Aama Didi Bahini Bus Sewa' is a state initiative operated entirely by women, endorsing a secure travel environment.

This service will connect Ranipool and the Gangtok Secretariat at a modest fare of Rs 25. The buses are well-equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV, and mobile charging facilities, enhancing commuter experience. The initiative aligns with state goals to advance women’s safety and participation in various sectors. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang highlighted the program's focus on gender equality and public transport enhancement.
