As more and more women enter the workforce, a survey has revealed that a large majority (86 per cent) of those polled like to have mentors to seek advice and navigate the challenges at the workplace. While 86 per cent women respondents would like access to a mentor for advice, over 80 per cent of them feel that workshops should be held to sensitise their male colleagues to make them understand the challenges women face, says a survey by Pink Ladder that works in the area of a better career enhancement ecosystem.

The survey, held in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune covering different industry sectors, finds that about 82 per cent of respondents feel that employers should celebrate internal success stories of women who have broken the glass ceiling to motivate others. Wellness, stress management, and personal grooming seem to be areas women would like to focus on with 88 per cent saying they would like their employers to organise workshops around these issues to help create a positive image about themselves, says the survey.

The survey says the occasion like the Women's Day can be a good opportunity for organisations to create concrete engagement programmes that can make a real difference to their employees and enable them to break the glass ceiling. The gender gap among Indian professionals is worse than the global average in every sector, finds the survey.
