The Tamil Nadu government has sought explanation from top official of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) over good number of candidates from some centres alone cracking the exam, Finance and Human Resources Management Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan told the Assembly on Monday.

Immediately after the incident came to his notice, he had sought an explanation from the TNPSC official and he would be able to divulge further information only after receiving the report, Rajan said.

Responding to a special call attention motion moved by Leader of the Opposition AIADMK K Palaniswami, Rajan said ''appropriate action would be taken if any malpractices, as claimed, had taken place.'' Flagging the issue, Palaniswami said candidates with subsequent registration numbers who appeared for the TNPSC exam at a centre in Sivaganga district had cracked the exam.

''Nearly 700 candidates who appeared for the exam in Karaikudi had cleared the exam. Likewise, 2,000 candidates who had appeared for the TNPSC exam in November, last year, in Tenkasi, too, had passed in the exam for which the results were announced this February,'' Palaniswami said and sought a detailed probe into the incident.
