Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s tweet on the ''dilapidated condition'' of Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday drew sharp criticism from the ruling BRS Government, with Health Minister T Harish Rao saying she failed to acknowledge the development that took place in the heath sector in Telangana.
“Concerned to see the dilapidated condition of the century old prestigious #OsmaniaGeneralHospital. Pride of this citadel of learning & healing must be restored soon,” the Governor tweeted posting pictures of patients lying on floor in “OGH”.
She also tagged a representation made by the “Joint Association for New OGH” to the Director of Medical Education. Reacting to her tweet, Harish Rao said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced Rs 200 crore for the construction of a new building for the OGH back in 2015. However, the matter landed in court due to some legal issues.
“She was trying to pluck feathers on the egg (trying desperately to find fault). Why did she not come forward to tweet when the state government successfully conducted eye testing for 1.62 crore people and distributed spectacles for the needy in just 100 days,” the minister questioned.
He asked why there was no tweet when the state-owned Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was expanded with more beds.
He alleged that the governor failed to recoginse the fact that Telangana is in the top three position, in bringing down the Maternal Mortality rate to just 43 per cent the fact which was also certified by the NITI Aayog and also deliveries in government hospitals have gone up considerably.
Relations between the Raj Bhavan and the BRS government in the state are not on the best of terms, with Soundararajan complaining of protocol not being followed with regard to her office, while the government has expressed reservations about some Bills pending with the Governor, as well as her style of functioning.
