In a recent development, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) has raised the possibility of the university reverting to its own entrance examinations for PhD admissions, diverging from the current reliance on UGC NET scores.
While JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit stated that no concrete decision has been reached, she emphasized that suggestions are being gathered from stakeholders to mitigate delays caused by the late declaration of UGC NET results, which also affect the fellowship of JRF students.
Adding weight to JNUTA's stance, their statement outlined that a meeting held on July 3 explored reinstating the old JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) for PhD admissions. Concerns were highlighted regarding procedural issues and time constraints involved in implementing the change, but a final decision remains pending. If adopted, the change will be announced on the university's official website.
