Delhi University (DU) on Monday constituted a four-member committee to investigate the alleged vandalism at its students' union office. The investigation is set to produce a report within seven days.
The committee includes DU Proctor Rajni Abbi, Dean of Students' Welfare Ranjan Kumar Tripathi, Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) staff advisor Surender Kumar, and Joint Proctor Geeta Sahare, an official notification revealed.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the RSS, alleged on Sunday that members of the Congress' student wing National Students' Union of India (NSUI), including DUSU vice president Abhi Dahiya, ransacked the students' union office. The ABVP has filed a police complaint regarding the matter.
North Campus Police Station received a complaint, and the police will investigate and take necessary action, as per DCP North M K Meena.
ABVP accused Dahiya and other NSUI members of damaging the offices of DUSU president Tushar Dedha, secretary Aparajita, joint secretary Sachin Baisla, and the visitor room. They alleged the incident involved consumption of alcohol and that a video showing empty bottles in Dahiya's office supports their claims. The ABVP demands Dahiya's removal and police action.
NSUI has denied these allegations and accused ABVP of vandalizing Dahiya's office instead. Dahiya stated the ABVP's actions were retaliation after he exposed a fake degree of an ABVP office bearer and DUSU President.
