Student Group Protests Fee Hike at Delhi University

The Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), a student body, held a demonstration outside the Delhi University vice-chancellor's office to protest against fee hikes in various courses. They also demanded re-evaluation of substandard study material for the School of Open Learning (SOL) and raised concerns about higher education becoming inaccessible for marginalized students.

On Saturday, the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), a student organization, staged a protest outside the Delhi University vice-chancellor's office in response to fee hikes in several courses.

Representing the working class and marginalized communities, the KYS criticized the university for providing substandard study material to School of Open Learning (SOL) students. The student group gathered outside Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh's office during an Executive Council meeting to demand an immediate rollback of the fee hike and re-evaluation of the proposed study material.

The Executive Council, which includes university faculty and officials, convened to discuss various policy proposals affecting students. A report citing fee increases in undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs, approved under the vice-chancellor's emergency powers, was reviewed. Additionally, a proposal to approve SOL study material was tabled during the meeting. The KYS condemned the privatization of education and argued that fee hikes have made higher education inaccessible to marginalized students.
