Delhi Government to Regulate Coaching Centres Following Tragedy

The Delhi government plans to implement a law to regulate coaching centres following a tragic incident where three IAS aspirants drowned in a basement. A committee including officials and students will be formed to frame the law. The regulation aims to ensure proper infrastructure, teacher qualifications, fee regulation, and prevent misleading advertisements.

The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is set to introduce a law to regulate coaching centres after a tragic incident saw three IAS aspirants drown in the flooded basement of a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar.

Cabinet Minister Atishi announced at a press conference that a committee comprising government officials and students from various coaching hubs will be formed to draft the legislation. 'Just like private schools and hospitals, coaching centres will now have established guidelines for infrastructure, regular inspections, and mandatory government recognition,' she said.

The law aims to specify infrastructure requirements, qualifications of teachers, and regulate fees while preventing misleading advertisements. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has already initiated action by sealing 30 basements and issuing notices to 200 other coaching centres operating illegally. An e-mail ID is also set up for public feedback on this initiative.
