Delhi University's Miranda House college has raised hostel fees by Rs 6,000 per semester, according to a statement from the Students Federation of India (SFI) on Monday.

The college administration has upped the fee from Rs 27,090 to Rs 33,090 for odd semesters and Rs 26,750 to Rs 32,750 for even semesters, as per an update on the institution's website.

Miranda House Principal Bijayalaxmi Nanda stated the hike was necessary due to inflation and maintenance costs. She assured that the fee increase was minimal and that the college is committed to student support policies. Nanda also highlighted that the hostel fees are among the lowest compared to other prestigious institutions.

SFI, however, criticized the hike, calling it a significant financial burden on students and their families. The students' union demanded transparency from the administration regarding fee adjustments.

The revised fee structure is accessible on the college's website, with the next odd semester beginning in July.
