Breaking Barriers: Girls in Science Stream Overtake Arts in 2024

This significant shift is based on an analysis of data from 66 school education boards across India.

Historically dominated by arts, the education landscape is seeing a paradigm shift, driven by improved facilities in schools, including dedicated labs and smart classes. The top 33 education boards accounted for 97% of the student population, illustrating a comprehensive range of data.

Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar highlighted that the number of girls graduating in science saw a steep rise, from 13.4 lakh in 2013 to 28.1 lakh in 2024. Meanwhile, the report indicates a decline in students opting for commerce streams, highlighting a growing preference for science and arts among students.
