JNU Launches Sindhudurg Dialogue Amidst Controversy and Celebration

Jawaharlal Nehru University inaugurated two new academic centres focusing on Marathi studies and strategic military research. In a significant development, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) unveiled two new academic centres, marked by the inauguration of an annual dialogue series titled 'Sindhudurg Dialogue.' The launch ceremony was performed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the JNU Convention Centre, accompanied by Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant and other dignitaries.

JNU Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit hailed the university as the 'most nationalist campus' and underscored its commitment to innovation and inclusivity, resonating with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals. The newly revealed Sindhudurg Samvad aims to facilitate annual intellectual exchanges among scholars, thinkers, and policymakers.

However, the event was not without controversy. The JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) protested against what they termed an increasing 'saffronisation' of academics and raised alarms over the Maharashtra Special Public Safety Bill. The protest devolved into clashes with campus security and police, drawing criticism from student leaders who argued the university was compromising on its tradition of critical discourse.
