Hundreds of teachers and teaching job aspirants took to the streets near the Education Department's headquarters in Salt Lake, Kolkata, to demand changes in recruitment and pay policies. The rallies, held separately on Tuesday, highlighted issues in the education sector.

Around 300 candidates under the 'SLST Waiting Candidate Association' marched from Karunamoyee aiming for Bikash Bhavan, only to be stopped by police. They called for the immediate filling of teacher vacancies, citing unexplained exclusion from interviews after being marked qualified in a 2025 recruitment test.

Simultaneously, around 500 All Bengal Teachers' Association members marched demanding a Dearness Allowance hike and the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission for school staff. The dual protests caused traffic disruptions before authorities restored order.
