Hansraj College has taken a decisive stance by suspending at least 30 students for a range of offenses, including violence during the college festival and defaming the institution on social media. The Delhi University student union has condemned this move and is preparing for a protest scheduled on Monday to contest the suspensions.
The initial suspension notice dated April 20 was directed at Parth Srivastava, the former student union president. The college accused him of indiscipline and using derogatory language against college staff. Despite given opportunities to defend himself, Srivastava was found culpable. In response, Srivastava, who called the action arbitrary, has challenged this decision legally.
Subsequent suspension notices were issued following an incident of violence at the annual festival and further, acts of misconduct within the college premises. The suspensions have sparked widespread condemnation, including planned protests, as the college vows to maintain discipline amidst controversy.
