This was confirmed during a hearing by Justice Sachin Datta, following a petition by NGO Social Jurist calling for contempt action due to non-compliance with a 2024 order.

The petition filed by lawyer Ashok Agarwal argues that the failure to supply textbooks has severely impacted the education of lakhs of students from classes 1 to 8, violating their right to education. The government has stated that 10 lakh students have received their books, and remaining distributions are underway.

The court noted the government's commitment to complete textbook distribution for the current academic session before summer break. Authorities must submit a compliance report by September, adhering to previous commitments made to the High Court to provide educational material adequately and timely.
