Odisha's Strategic Push: Education and Development in Disputed Kotia

The Odisha government plans to establish a degree college in the disputed Kotia area in Koraput, a region claimed by both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The move is part of broader development efforts, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure, to counter Andhra Pradesh's influence and improve local livelihoods.

The Odisha government is set to launch a degree college in the contested Kotia region of Koraput district, according to state Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari. This disputed territory has been at the center of claims by both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, with a case pending in the Supreme Court since 1968.

Minister Pujari, along with Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, recently visited the region, participating in various programs. These included the symbolic installation of the chariot wheel of Goddess Subhadra, transported from the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. Pujari noted that past developmental neglect led Andhra Pradesh to win over the locals with its initiatives.

Under the BJP-led government, efforts have intensified to deliver public welfare projects to the people of Kotia. An inter-ministerial committee ensures that benefits reach the local population. Plans include bringing meritorious students to Bhubaneswar for higher studies and investing in tourism and healthcare to foster development and employment in the Kotia region.
