''Should not spare anyone'': Cong MLA targets Left-backed officials in speech

Newly elected Congress MLA Mohamed Shiyas on Friday said Left-supported officials and union members who allegedly harassed Congress supporters during the past 10 years should not be spared. The tears we shed over the last 10 years should be made to be shed by them within one year, he said, days after the Congress-led UDF stormed back to power in Kerala with a massive mandate, ending the 10-year CPIM-led LDF rule.

Newly elected Congress MLA Mohamed Shiyas on Friday said Left-supported officials and union members who allegedly harassed Congress supporters during the past 10 years should not be ''spared''. Addressing a meeting of the party-affiliated NGO Association here, Shiyas alleged that several Left-backed union activists have troubled those associated with Congress organisations in every possible way and even derived ''mental pleasure'' from such acts. ''We should not spare anyone. The tears we shed over the last 10 years should be made to be shed by them within one year,'' he said, days after the Congress-led UDF stormed back to power in Kerala with a massive mandate, ending the 10-year CPI(M)-led LDF rule. The MLA also claimed that Left-backed unions had constantly found new ways to target Congress supporters and openly celebrated such actions. Shiyas won the Assembly polls from the Kochi constituency, defeating CPI(M) MLA K J Maxy by a margin of over 8,000 votes.
