CBSE Upholds On-Screen Marking System Amid Evaluation Concerns

The CBSE has defended its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluating Class-12 exams, emphasizing it ensures transparency and consistency. Despite social media criticism, the board maintains the OSM promotes fairness across subjects. Students can still request re-evaluation if dissatisfied with their results. The pass rate dropped slightly this year.

In response to concerns over Class-12 exam evaluations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has affirmed its support for the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. This mechanism was introduced to assure fairness, transparency, and uniformity in the examination process.

Recent criticisms on social media highlighted discrepancies particularly in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. However, the CBSE reiterated the OSM system's role in promoting objectivity and consistency in evaluating answer sheets and ensuring stepwise marking, a cornerstone of their evaluation framework.

For students dissatisfied with their results, the CBSE maintains the option for re-evaluation, reflecting its commitment to fairness and equity. The Board clarified that re-evaluation requests could be made if discrepancies are found. This year, over 85% of candidates passed the exams, though the pass rate dipped compared to last year.
