The National Students' Union of India (NSUI), a student body aligned with the Congress party, organized a protest march to oppose the On-Screen Marking (OSM) policy introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Class 12 students. Demonstrators demanded that the board immediately rescind the policy.
The protest began at Indira Bhawan and culminated at the CBSE headquarters, with hundreds of NSUI members voicing their rejection of the OSM system. They claimed the policy leads to confusion and undue stress for students sitting for the board exams, further urging CBSE to address these concerns.
A substantial police presence was observed as protesters advanced towards the Shiksha Sadan headquarters, emphasizing their disapproval of the policy. The NSUI alleged that the On-Screen Marking system had left millions of students and parents across India in disarray.
Holding placards demanding justice for students, NSUI's national president, Vinod Jakhar, criticized the policy as 'anti-student' and demanded a more transparent examination system. He warned of a nationwide escalation if the CBSE does not respond to the grievances highlighted by students.
CBSE, meanwhile, affirmed the reliability and security of the OSM platform, denying any breach or vulnerability in its evaluation processes. The board's statement arrived amid contentious discussions about the digital evaluation contract for future board exams and circulating claims regarding OSM's potential flaws.
