SWIFT funded RM17k on quality education for underprivileged school in Malaysia

In collaboration with Great Heart Charity Association (GHCA), SWIFT Support Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SWIFT) has aligned their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by providing quality education to 97 students from SJK(T) Sungai Buaya, with a total fund of RM17,350.

Aim to improve the quality of education of the schools and to develop good reading habits among the students, GHCA's Hope Reading Program 2019, fully funded by SWIFT, has equipped SJK(T) Sungai Buaya's library with new bookshelves, chairs and reading materials. It was previously found out that bookshelf is lacking in the library and it has been quite some time since the last introduction of new reading materials for the students due to the lack of fund. SWIFT also made their contribution counts by collecting second-hand books for the school.

Besides, each student also was given a set of educational supplies worth RM75, including stationeries, school bag and exercise books. It is hoped that the assistance could motivate them to actively seek for knowledge in school. Standard 6 students were additionally provided with free breakfast during their UPSR examination days too. Determined to help, 30 staffs from SWIFT also volunteered their time to have a one-day activity at the school. With the guidance from the schoolteachers, SWIFT staffs helped with labelling the newly purchased reading materials in the library and a gotong-royong session in fixing the damaged fence and shifting spoiled furniture to disposal corner. SWIFT staffs also helped to coordinate some educational station games for the students as additional knowledge to their studies.

Mr. Liew Jin Hooi, the president of SWIFT CSR Kuala Lumpur, mentioned in his speech that they have started to incorporate SDGs into their CSR initiatives and that quality education is an important aspect to the younger generation. He hoped that all the given assistance could improve the quality of education in SJK(T) Sungai Buaya.

Pn. Saraswathy, the school principal of SJK(T) Sungai Buaya, expressed her gratitude towards the generosity of SWIFT during the ceremony as the school seldom receive these assistances. She is thankful that the school now have sufficient dictionaries for the students during the classes. Ms. Oon Jia Li, GHCA CSR coordinator, urged students to also do good to others when they become capable in the future, setting SWIFT as a role model to them.
