Viewers already know that Netflix announced Designated Survivor would not be renewed for Season 4 on July 24, 2019. Despite the cancellation of the series, fans have kept questioning whether the series has any chance for at least another season in future.

While announcing that Designated Survivor would not be renewed for Season 4, Netflix made it clear that Season 3 already made for a satisfying final season. However, Netflix will continue to stream all three seasons on their platform.

In July 2019, Designated Survivor was cancelled by Netflix due to complications with the actors' contracts. However, Studio Dragon and produced by DK E&M-developed South Korean remake entitled Designated Survivor: 60 Days premiered on tvN in South Korea and Netflix worldwide from July 1 to August 20, 2019. Ji Jin-hee portrays the lead role in the series.

“I don’t believe season 4 will happen. Netflix was a wonderful experience. It gave us a lot of freedom. The reality is that they couldn’t book many of the actors they had on the show because their contracts were so complex and different between network TV and Netflix. They also took other jobs. They did a great job,” Kiefer Sutherland (who played as Tom Kirkman) said to Simon Mayo on Scala Radio.

“So, I believe that doing season four would prove to be extremely difficult and complicated. It’s time to find something new for us all,” Kiefer Sutherland added.

According to Deadline, Netflix and studio Entertainment One only signed one-year agreements with the cast. This took them up Designated Survivor to Season 3 and not further.

If Designated Survivor is ever renewed for Season 4, it is expected to focus on Tom's moral habits and circumstances, the higher stakes, and eventually the upcoming more significant consequences. In the previous season, we saw Tom Kirkman winning the election and continues to fight for another four years in the office. He chooses to hide a truth than revealing to the public. In doing so, he gradually realized that he is also becoming like everyone in the White House who misuse power. He started feeling that he is also becoming a manipulative person just like other politicians.

The major questions are – Will Isabel announce to Aaron that she's got her daughter, will Emily return to her work, and will severe bio-risk be over? These questions need answers from the next season(s). Lorraine Zimmer (Julie White) is expected to be seen behind the bar for illegal hacking along with Emily Rhodes (Italia Ricci). Lorraine was the campaign manager for Tom's presidential campaign.

Designated Survivor Season 4 doesn't have an official release date. Stay tuned to Devdiscourse to get the latest updates on the Netflix series.
