Nisaba Godrej Resigns from VIP Industries Board Citing Leadership Differences

Nisaba Godrej, executive chairperson of Godrej Consumer, has stepped down as an independent director from the board of VIP Industries, citing disagreements over leadership accountability and succession planning.

Godrej's resignation was confirmed by VIP Industries in a recent stock exchange filing dated June 3. Her official exit from the company's board will be effective from June 3, 2024.

Expressing her views in a resignation letter, Godrej stated: ‘'Due to my differing view on leadership accountability and succession planning, I will be resigning from the Board effective June 3rd, 2024.’'

Appointed in April 2021, Godrej's term as an independent director was set to end in March 2026. Despite attending all five meetings in the fiscal year 2023, she chose to forgo any sitting fees. Godrej praised VIP Industries as a market leader in the luggage sector, wishing the company continued success.

VIP Industries, led by Chairman Dilip Piramal, boasts a market capitalisation of Rs 6,900 crore and competes with brands like Samsonite and Safari Industries. The company, which holds a dominant market share of 56% in the branded luggage segment, reported a revenue of Rs 2,245 crore for the financial year ending March 2024, marking a 7.82% increase year on year.
