Vinod Kumar Shukla's Poetry Now in English: A Legacy Unveiled

Titled 'Treasurer of the Piggy Banks,' the book, translated by Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, is part of the 'Literary Activism series.' Westland Books has unveiled the English translation of selected Hindi poems by renowned writer Vinod Kumar Shukla. The book, 'Treasurer of the Piggy Banks,' translated by acclaimed poet and editor Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, is the fourth installment in the 'Literary Activism series' published in partnership with the Centre for the Creative and the Critical at Ashoka University.

This poetic collection captures the 87-year-old Shukla's observations of relationships and the universe, depicted through various mundane settings like bylanes, kitchens, bus-stops, and markets. The compilation spans 60 years of Shukla's poetic career, featuring works from his 1971 pamphlet 'Lagbhag Jaihind' to his latest poems.

Amit Chaudhuri, the series editor, acclaimed Shukla's unique contribution to literature, emphasizing the originality and indispensability of his works. Shukla's distinctive linguistic style has won him significant accolades, including the PEN/Nabokov Award for international literature in 2023 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999. The book, priced at Rs 340, is available both online and offline.
