Probe Launched After Jagannath Temple Idol Mishap During Rath Yatra

A three-member panel has been established to investigate the incident where Lord Balabhadra's idol fell on servitors during its transfer from the chariot to the Gundicha temple during the Rath Yatra festival, said an official from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri.

The panel, which includes an additional district magistrate, SJTA administrator, and a DSP rank police officer, will scrutinize the video footage and other factors to determine the cause of the incident. They will report their findings within 10 days post 'Niladri Bije' ritual.

The incident, which injured 12 servitors, has also sparked reactions from political parties. Opposition parties have criticized the state government over the issue, with BJD and Congress leaders expressing concerns. The managing committee has also suggested reopening the temple's treasury for inventory and repairs.
