Director Rahool Mukherjee Banned for Violating Filming Rules
The Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) has banned director Rahool Mukherjee for three months for violating rules about foreign shooting. Mukherjee was replaced by another director for his film project after he failed to notify the federation about his visit to Bangladesh.
The Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) has imposed a three-month ban on young director Rahool Mukherjee for violating rules regarding shooting in a foreign country.
Following this decision, production house SVF has replaced him with another director for their ongoing project.
FCTWEI President Swarup Biswas stated that Rahool Mukherjee did not inform the federation or the Directors' Association of Eastern India about his visit to Bangladesh for shooting a film. This contravenes the federation's guidelines.
Portions of the film, which features actors Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, and Priyanka Sarkar, were filmed in Bangladesh.
Mukherjee initially claimed to be in Bangladesh as a tourist when his absence was questioned, Biswas added. Additionally, Mukherjee allegedly used technicians from the Dhaka film industry, further violating norms.
Biswas emphasized that the decision was collectively made by various guilds within the federation.
SVF announced Soumik Haldar as the new director of the film, stating that Rahool Mukherjee would now act as a creative producer for the project due to recent developments and stakeholder guidelines.
Mukherjee, known for his successful romcom 'Kishmish,' did not comment directly on the ban. However, he shared supportive social media posts from veteran filmmaker Anjan Dutt and acclaimed director Srijit, who criticized the ban as unethical and illegal.
Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee also urged the federation to reconsider, highlighting the negative impact on investments, jobs, producers, actors, crew, and technicians in West Bengal's film industry.
