Union Minister Launches Upskilling Programme for Artisans and Weavers

Union Minister Pabitra Margherita inaugurated a training program for artisans and weavers across 100 clusters in India. The program, covering handicrafts and handloom sectors, aims to benefit over 3,500 participants. The minister highlighted the initiative’s potential to elevate the textile industry and improve market linkages.

Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, inaugurated a special training program for artisans and weavers across 100 clusters nationwide on Saturday.

In the initial phase, more than 3,500 artisans and weavers are expected to benefit.

Speaking to reporters at the 'Bunkar and Karigar Utthan Upskilling Programme FY 2024-25' inauguration, Margherita stated that the clusters span from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Northeast to Gujarat.

Of the 100 clusters, 70 are in the handicrafts sector, while 30 focus on handloom.

'We have trained master trainers for all clusters, and they are optimistic that this 100-day training will significantly benefit weavers and artisans. Our aim is to extend the program nationwide,' he said.

He also noted that each cluster includes more than 30 artisans and weavers, who are eager to enhance their skills through this initiative.

Margherita, also a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, said efforts are being made to elevate the textile industry, particularly in handloom and handicrafts, by providing specialized training and market linkages. Beneficiaries from Assam attended the event in person, while others joined virtually.
