Matt Damon's passion for 'Rounders', the 1998 American drama film centered around high-stakes poker, could soon lead to a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star expressed his enthusiasm during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

Speaking about sequels he'd be interested in, Damon mentioned his production firm, Actors Equity, co-founded with Ben Affleck, was working on 'The Accountant 2'. However, he expressed a desire to revisit John Dahl's 'Rounders', highlighting the film's focus on underground poker tournaments. Damon recounted a conversation with Edward Norton, co-star of the original film, about their shared interest in a sequel.

While catching up with the characters from 'Rounders' excites Damon, he acknowledges the complication of securing the movie's rights, originally issued by Miramax Films in 1998. He stressed the importance of making a fair deal for everyone involved, particularly emphasizing the cast and crew.

Damon also shared insights from his discussions with screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman, creators of the Showtime series 'Billions', about evolving and updating the story. Despite its initial box-office flop, 'Rounders' has built a dedicated fanbase, making the possibility of a sequel even more enticing.

'Rounders' evolved into a cult classic, a point Damon emphasizes, mentioning its rediscovery by audiences who now claim it as their own. He remains hopeful about overcoming the logistical barriers, believing there's substantial goodwill backing the sequel's potential realization.
