Dramatic Rescue: Woman Found Shackled in Swollen Mahanadi River

A 33-year-old woman, Sarojini Chouhan, from Chhattisgarh was rescued from the swollen Mahanadi River in Odisha's Jharsuguda district. Fishermen heard her screams and saved her, providing food before handing her to the police. Her family claimed she was mentally unstable and fell into the river accidentally. She underwent a health check-up and was found to be fine.

A dramatic rescue unfolded in Jharsuguda district on Thursday as a 33-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh was saved from the swollen Mahanadi River, police reported.

The woman, identified as Sarojini Chouhan, originally from Purath village in Raigarh district, was spotted by fishermen in Palsada village, approximately 30 km downstream. Following her screams for help, local fishermen immediately rescued her, provided food, and then handed her over to the authorities.

According to her brother, Chouhan had been living with his family after separating from her husband. He claimed that due to her mental instability, her ankles were shackled. She fell into the river and was swept away. Jharsuguda's Superintendent of Police, Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, confirmed that she underwent a health check-up and was in good condition. Her family has since taken her back.
