Ransomware Attack Targets Parisian Museums: Olympic Events Unaffected
A ransomware attack targeted the central data systems of Paris' Grand Palais and other museums within the Reunion des Musees Nationaux network, affecting around 40 museums. Despite the breach, there has been no disruption to Olympic events hosted by these venues. Authorities are investigating to secure the affected systems.
A ransomware attack has recently compromised the central data systems of Paris' Grand Palais and several other museums in the Reunion des Musees Nationaux (RMN) network, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. The breach, detected on Sunday, has impacted data systems used by around 40 museums across France.
Despite the cybersecurity incident, Paris officials confirmed on Tuesday that the attack has not disrupted any of the Summer Olympics events being hosted at these venues. The Grand Palais is currently hosting fencing and taekwondo competitions, while the Chateau de Versailles, part of the same network, serves as the venue for equestrian sports and the modern pentathlon.
The investigation has been handed over to a specialized subdivision, the Brigade for Combating Cybercrime, to determine the attack's extent and trace its perpetrators. Efforts are continually underway to secure and restore the compromised data systems.
