Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday firmly rebuked Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav for attributing the devastating landslides in Wayanad to the state's policies, dismissing these claims as false allegations.

During a press conference, Vijayan accused Yadav of disrespecting the victims of the landslides through his remarks made a day earlier.

Yadav had stated that the Kerala government's policies, including allowing illegal human habitat expansion and mining in the ecologically fragile region, led to the landslides. He also criticized the state for overlooking vital environmental factors like soil topography, rock conditions, geomorphology, mountain slopes, and the vegetation structure.
