The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, has announced a crucial meeting of five Sikh high priests on August 30 in Amritsar to discuss significant 'Panthic' matters.

In a statement, the Akal Takht Secretariat revealed that the meeting will be led by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh. Although specific issues were not detailed, it is anticipated that explanations and apologies from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders will be up for discussion. SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, in a letter, has sought 'unconditional forgiveness' for mistakes committed during the party's rule in Punjab, notably concerning the 2015 sacrilege incidents and a 2007 blasphemy case.

Rebel SAD leaders, accusing Badal of failures during his deputy chief ministership, have also submitted an apology letter, citing four key mistakes from their tenure. They had called for Badal's resignation following the party's debacle in recent Lok Sabha polls. These proceedings underscore a period of substantial introspection and accountability within the Sikh leadership.
