Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday attended the state-level celebration of World Tribal Day in Sabarkantha district and launched various projects costing Rs 1,014 crore from the venue.

An official release stated the event was organized at an educational institute at Navi Metral village in Khedbrahma taluka.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM highlighted the spiritual connection of indigenous tribes with nature, mentioning their worship of Birsa Munda. August 9, known as World Tribal Day, is dedicated to preserving the rich history and culture of these communities.

Patel emphasized the state government's commitment to providing basic amenities such as water, healthcare, education, and employment, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing Gujarat as a model for tribal development.

He acknowledged the tribals' contributions to the freedom struggle and mentioned India's first tribal President, Droupadi Murmu. Patel also highlighted the PM Janman campaign aimed at the development of 30,000 tribal families, benefiting 1.5 lakh people. Ongoing government efforts aim to meet primary needs through various schemes and employment initiatives.

Patel further discussed educational initiatives like free coaching for medical and engineering entrance exams for tribal students, ensuring a 360-degree transformation in educational opportunities.

On the occasion of World Tribal Day, Patel inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 4,293 projects across the state, cumulatively costing Rs 1,014.14 crore.

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is observed on August 9 to raise awareness about the rights of these communities.
