Swedish Prosecutors Close Investigation into Eurovision Incident Involving Dutch Singer Joost Klein
Swedish prosecutors have closed the investigation into Dutch singer Joost Klein, who was evicted from the Eurovision Song Contest over an incident with a female crew member. The investigation concluded that there was no intent to cause harm. The European Broadcasting Union stands by the disqualification.
Swedish prosecutors announced Monday they have closed the investigation into Dutch singer Joost Klein. Klein was evicted from the Eurovision Song Contest in May after a complaint from a female crew member.
Klein, 26, known for his song "Europapa", was initially among the favorites to win in Malmo. The Swedish Prosecution Authority concluded that Klein involuntarily hit the woman's film camera and found no intent to cause harm.
Senior prosecutor Fredrik Jonsson stated, "I cannot prove that the act was capable of causing serious fear or that the man had any such intention." The European Broadcasting Union, which organizes Eurovision, supports Klein's disqualification and emphasizes zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior. Klein's management team expressed relief at the conclusion of the case.
