Tragic Electrocution of Priest During Flag Ceremony
A church priest, Fr. Mathew Kudilil, was electrocuted during an Independence Day flag lowering ceremony in Mulleria. The incident occurred when the flag pole made contact with an electricity line. A church priest was tragically electrocuted in Mulleria on Thursday while lowering the national flag after Independence Day celebrations, according to police sources.
Fr. Mathew Kudilil, 29, of Mulleria Infant Jesus Church, was attempting to lower a flag that had become entangled in the pole. In his efforts to free it, the flag post leaned and made contact with a nearby electricity line, resulting in his electrocution, police reported.
Kudilil, a native of Iritty in Kannur, had taken charge as the church's vicar one and a half years ago. Another priest, Sebin Joseph, 28, suffered injuries and is receiving treatment in Mangaluru. Kudilil is survived by his mother, Lisy, and siblings Linto Augustin and Binto Augustine.
