Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday recognized the achievements of Indian Army athletes who competed in the recent Paris Olympics, highlighting their exceptional performances. The ceremony, held at South Block, celebrated not just individual accomplishments but also the Army's pivotal role in nurturing national sports talent.
At the Paris Games, Indian Army athletes made up 11.11% of India's contingent, contributing 16.66% of the nation's total medal count. Sub Maj Neeraj Chopra's silver in javelin was particularly noteworthy. The Indian contingent secured a total of six medals — one silver and five bronze.
General Dwivedi expressed confidence in the athletes' continued quest for excellence. The Indian Army's Mission Olympic Wing and various sports companies have been crucial in developing future talent, aiming to further elevate India's standing in global sports.
