President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday greeted citizens on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, emphasizing the festival's importance in enhancing respect for women in society.

Raksha Bandhan celebrates the unique bond between brothers and sisters, reinforcing love and mutual trust, Murmu stated.

The President noted that the festival transcends religious and cultural boundaries, symbolizing India's unity in diversity. 'This festival strengthens our determination to protect the rights of women. May it nurture the spirit of harmony and love while enhancing respect for women,' she said in a message issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The festival, occurring on Monday, traditionally involves sisters tying a 'rakhi' on their brothers' wrists.
