A man was taken into custody early Monday for allegedly creating a scene and harassing a female doctor on duty at a hospital in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The man, identified as Gurpreet Singh, reportedly caused a disturbance at the sub-district hospital in Nowshera, leading to a protest by medical staff.
The incident occurred around 12.45 am when Singh, who had accompanied a patient, began acting out without provocation, officials said. He allegedly broke a windowpane and verbally abused a female doctor who attempted to intervene before fleeing the scene.
Shocked by these actions, doctors and paramedics halted their work and staged a protest, demanding strict action against the accused and improved security measures at the hospital.
Senior civil and police officials arrived at the scene, assuring the medical staff of Singh's arrest and the filing of charges under relevant criminal law provisions, leading to the protest being called off.
Block Medical Officer Iqbal Malik confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused had vandalized hospital property and harassed the doctor without any reason.
“Police have arrested the accused, after which the hospital staff resumed their duties,” Malik said.
