Himachal CM Pays Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on His 80th Birth Anniversary

On Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid homage to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 80th birth anniversary. Sukhu offered floral tributes at Gandhi's statue at Rajiv Chowk, Chhota Shimla.
Addressing the attendees, Sukhu lauded Gandhi as the 'architect of modern India' and noted his significant reforms and initiatives that transformed the societal mindset. Sukhu remembered his own days as the president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and credited Gandhi with lowering the voting age from 21 to 18, empowering youth participation.
Sukhu further emphasized Gandhi's vision in making India a leader in the IT sector, citing his bold steps to ignite an IT revolution when the USA refused to provide supercomputers. He also highlighted Gandhi’s advocacy for women's rights, including granting 33% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions. The day was observed as 'Sadbhavana Diwas' across the state, with Sukhu administering the pledge to officials at the state secretariat.
