The controversy arose following the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's decision to discontinue using Nandini Ghee from the Karnataka Milk Federation, prompting allegations of adulteration.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, K S Eshwarappa, claimed foreign Christian missionaries were involved during the tenure of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Joshi emphasized the need to uphold cultural and religious sanctity while assuring that the case will be taken to its logical conclusion.
