Six workers lost their lives, and four others sustained severe burns in a devastating fire at a mattress factory in Kanpur's industrial area, authorities reported on Sunday.

Kanpur Dehat Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy stated that the fire ignited at RP Poly Plast Pvt Ltd on Saturday on Khanpur Khadanja Road, Rania, due to a short circuit, which resulted in a gas cylinder explosion and roof collapse. The factory director, Shishir Garg, alerted the fire station, and fire tenders were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters recovered the charred bodies of three teenage workers, yet to be identified, while three others—Amit (19), Ajit (16), and Vishal (20)—succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Three laborers—Manoj (18), Priyanshu (19), and Luv-Kush (19)—remain missing. Injured workers include Rohit (22), Shivam (19), Ravi (24), Vishal (20), and Surendra (22). An FIR has been filed against three factory directors, although no arrests have been made.
