Maharashtra Declares Indigenous Cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata'

The Maharashtra Government declared indigenous cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata' on Monday, recognizing their importance in Indian culture, agriculture, and healthcare.

The decision aims to conserve desi cows, with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announcing subsidies and feed provisions for farmers during a state cabinet meeting in Mumbai.

The state's animal husbandry department will provide a Rs 50 daily subsidy for cow shelters, managed by the Maharashtra Cow Shelter Commissionerate. The 2019 census recorded 46,13,632 desi cows, a 20.69% decline.
