In a significant collaboration, the Tata Group and Somerville College, University of Oxford, have announced plans to construct the Ratan Tata Building in memory of the late philanthropist. This new landmark aims to expand educational facilities and support influential research at Somerville College.
According to a joint statement, construction will commence in Spring 2025 in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, facilitated by a substantial donation from Tata Group. The building will symbolize Tata's vision of integrating research with development for a sustainable future, reflecting his lifelong commitment to philanthropy.
Somerville College Principal, Baroness Royall, noted that the new building represents a decade of planning and embodies a partnership rooted in shared values. The facility will include state-of-the-art seminar rooms and accommodation for academics, enhancing the college's interdisciplinary study space.
